CHENNAI: A festival of Italian films to celebrate the golden jubilee of the Madras Film Society was launched at the Film Chamber Theatre, Gemini Circle, on Sunday. The festival was inaugurated by Italian film expert Marco Feira, actors Prashanth and Akshaya. K. Rajagopal, president of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce, was the chief guest. The four-day festival opened with "Quando Sei Nato, Non Puoi Piu Nasconderti" by Marco Tullio Giordana. It won the Francois Chalais Award at the Cannes Film Festival 2005 and reportedly received a nine-minute uninterrupted ovation from the audience. It tells the story of the only son of a wealthy Italian who falls overboard during a sailing trip through the Mediterranean and is rescued by a boat carrying illegal immigrants. His trip back to Italy changes things for the boy forever. On November 27, starting at 6.15 p.m., there will be two films - "Incantato," a romance, and Tartarughe Sul Dorso, a love story. The selection on November 28 begins with "Io Non Ho Paura," a coming of age film, and `L'uomo Perfetto' or "The Perfect Man." On November 30 is "Le Consequenze Dell'Amore" and "I Soliti Ignoti." The festival is organised by the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Madras Film Society.
