M.P. set to develop in a big way: CM

Chouhan addresses meeting for by-election

  • "Govt. reduced interest on agriculture loans to 7 per cent"
  • "`Kanyadan Scheme' for marrying off poor girls introduced"

DHANGAON: In next two years Madhya Pradesh will witness a sea change on developmental front, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Sunday.

``We will develop the State in next two years in such a way that has not happened in the last 50 years in Madhya Pradesh, specially in the infrastructure area and also by addressing the problems of the farmers,'' Chouhan said while addressing a BJP-organised public meeting for the Pandhana Assembly seat by-election in neighbouring Khandwa district.

The BJP has fielded Devendra Verma, son of slain BJP MLA Kishorilal Verma, whose death necessitated the election.

Congress has given ticket to the former minister Hiralal Silavat while Vasudev Atoot is contesting in Uma Bharti's Janshakti Party ticket.

Chouhan listed various steps taken by his government to better the condition of farmers and women in the State including reducing interest on agriculture loans from 14 per cent to 7 per cent and relaxing laws for awarding compensation to the natural calamity-hit farmers.

The Chief Minister also cited steps taken by his government for improving the condition of girl child and women.

He said that `Kanyadan Scheme' for marrying off girls of poor parents and cash incentives schemes for taking pregnant women to the hospitals are aimed at improving the skewed sex ratio of 927 females per 1000 males in the State. - PTI
