Church employee stabbed to death

Staff Reporter

Tambaram : A 60-year-old employee of St. Thomas Mount Church was stabbed to death by an unidentified man on Sunday evening.

Jacob, a resident of Butt Road, managed the sales division for religious publications at the church.

A large number of devotees gathered at the church for the evening service. Police said the assailant had come to the shrine at about 6.30 p.m. and had picked a quarrel with Jacob over the price of an article. The attacker is said to have punched Jacob. Though Jacob retreated to another room, the attacker pursued him and knifed his face, chest and abdomen. The assailant threatened the devotees and fled the scene.

A bleeding Jacob was rushed to a private hospital in Porur where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Greater Chennai Police Commissioner Letika Saran visited the spot and told reporters the police had obtained some leads. Investigations are on to trap the culprit.
