Chain snatching in two places

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI : Two cases of chain snatching were reported in the city over the weekend.

Police said on Saturday night, Nirmala (40) of Annai Satya Nagar was walking along the MMDA bus stand in Choolaimedu police station limits, when an unidentified man trailing her snatched her chain weighing four sovereigns.

In the second case, Gunavathi (40) of Taylors Road was taking a morning walk when a two-member gang in an autorickshaw got away with her chain weighing 12 sovereigns and fled the scene. Kilpauk police have registered a case. Residents of Kilpauk Garden and surrounding area complained that the number of such incidents was growing.

A senior officer said the police are investigating whether the same miscreants are behind both incidents.
