CHENNAI: The Pattali Makkal Katchi staged demonstration on Sunday all over the State to protest against the visit of Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Led by party president G.K. Mani, the members raised slogans against the Sri Lankan Government at a protest held in front of the State Guesthouse. Mr. Mani wanted the services of the Red Cross to be utilised for distribution of relief materials to Tamils. He criticised the reception provided to Mr. Rajapaksa on Saturday.

The PMK urged the Centre to persuade the island nation to agree for peace talks with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eeelam and advise him that there be no violation of human rights. Mr. Mani said the party staged a demonstration in New Delhi, in which Members of Parliament took part.

Dalit Panthers observed a fast near Valluvar Kottam to oppose the visit. General secretary Thol. Thirumavalvan and two MLAs K. Selvam and D. Ravikumar participated. Tamizhar Desiya Iyaakam (Tamil National Movement) president P. Nedumaran concluded the fast.
