Look into power arrears, says CPI(M)

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The City Committee of the CPI(M) on Sunday asked the State Government to constitute a high-power committee to solve the issue of power bill arrears accumulated over the years in Charminar, Begumbazar and Asmangadh divisions.

Members of the committee pointed out that arrears in the divisions were estimated to be at a staggering Rs. 50 crores. These pertained to 1.75 lakh customers of the total 3.85 lakh domestic power connections, they said. Secretary of the committee P.S.S. Murthy said defaulters belonged to financially weaker sections and pressurising them to `pay up or go to jail' was unfair.
