Learn from Mumbai

Anyone who has recently come to the twin cities from Mumbai, Bangalore or Chennai, will wonder why pedestrians cross the road at any point and at any junction even when the traffic signals indicate that they wait.

Let the State Government depute some officials to Mumbai to study the functioning of signal systems at junctions and install these systems here too.

Call them AC Janata trains

Our Railway Minister introduced Garib Rath with AC coaches for common commuters who can ill afford to travel by AC coaches of regular trains. The Minister should rename these trains AC Janata trains instead of drawing distinctions between `amir' and `garib'.

Build reserves of doctors

With reference to recent strikes by junior doctors and consequent misery to the public, it is suggested that State Governments build reserves of doctors to take over strikers' duties during such agitations.

The reserve doctors should get salaries and allowances for the period that they work.

After the strike period, these doctors will go back to their own places and wait for the next call. During the waiting period the doctors should get a retaining fee of say Rs. 500 per year. Thus there will be no agony for the public when doctors decide to strike.

Save depositors

More than three years have passed since Vijaya Bank's closure, but the fate of depositors still hangs in the balance. Seventy-five per cent of the customers are petty vendors, kirana shop owners and small and medium farmers, apart from pensioners.

It appears that the State Government and the RBI are not interested in reviving the bank.

The State Government had given a grant of Rs. 150 crores to revive sick cooperative rural banks. RBI helped Global Trust Bank and United Western Bank by merging them with other sound banks. But the woes of the customers of Vasavi Bank are not being considered since their voice is not loud and strong enough.

We request the Government to merge Vasavi Bank with APCOB, by providing an amount of Rs. 50-100 crores either as grant or loan and help the poor customers of Vasavi Bank.

Wrong number

On change of residence BSNL allotted telephone no. 24030368 this January. For the last nine months I have been getting calls from the SBI credit card division (Phone no. 044-39020202, 1800-180-1290) everyday -- at 8.30 a.m, 11 a.m. and 3.30 enquiring about one Sadashiv Rao. Every time I and my family members deny that Sadashiv Rao lives here.

Some of the persons calling are bold enough to identify themselves -- Ramesh, M.S. Sreenidhi and Vinod Kumar, Tele Marketing Executive. Most others refrain from identifying themselves.

Now the problem is that I am aged 70 years suffering from diabetes and hypertension. Every call disturbs my peace of mind.

I am not a credit card holder.

Why does a public sector bank like State Bank behave like this? When a person denies the presence of their customer, should they not verify the address of their customer?

Hope the authorities concerned will do the needful to stop this harassment.

No effort from RTC

The Police and Education Departments' decision to change school timings to minimise accidents may be either a boon or a bane to students and their parents.

But it is disappointing to note that APSRTC authorities have not revised their timings to synchronise with the new school timings.

I am constrained to make this observation after seeing hundreds of school and college boys and girls waiting in the bus stop after school is over.

We expect favourable action from APSRTC.
