Metro rail project to chug on DMRC rails

V. Geetanath

  • Services of foreign technical experts to be sought
  • World class planning, specifications are the key

HYDERABAD: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been appointed the prime consultant for the supervision of technical aspects of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project with approval of the State Government earlier this month.

The DMRC will be supervising the work in the first phase over a period of five years. Span-SEMALY is helping in vetting the technical and financial bid documents for the prospective build, operate and transfer (BOT) developer while an independent engineer, yet to be named, will oversee the construction work.

The DMRC played a crucial role in conducting feasibility studies and route finalisation for

the first phase being planned across three corridors for 66.39 km — Miyapur-L.B. Nagar, Jubilee bus station-Falaknuma and Habsiguda-Shilparamam. It is estimated to cost over Rs. 8,000 crores.

    Quality assurance

Project Director N.V.S. Reddy said the DMRC would help execute a world class system by overseeing the technical planning, specifications, design approach, quality assurance, safety audit and so on while safeguarding the interests of the Government.

Mr. Reddy pointed out that DMRC had the expertise in successfully implementing the metro rail project in Delhi and hoped the Hyderabad project would also be completed within the stipulated time.

    Mobilisation advance

The DMRC will be paid Rs. 18.33 crores over the entire period of project construction with 10 per cent as mobilisation advance and the rest in 20 equal instalments. Two of its senior officers along with support staff will be posted immediately.

Field specific experts will be deployed at periodic intervals based on the project progress.

Foreign technical personnel will be requisitioned, whenever needed, with Government's permission.

    Official for Paris meet

Meanwhile, the Project Director left for France on Sunday as part of a six-member Indian delegation to participate in the Indo-French Urban Rail Meet to be held in Paris.

Other members of the delegation invited by the French Government were proposed metro rail chiefs of Bangalore and Mumbai, officials from the railways, RITES and the Union Ministry of Urban Development.
