HYDERABAD: City lads B. Manoj Kumar and Mohammed Shaibaaz Tumbi continue to be showered with praises for their world record-breaking opening partnership. The latest being Union Minister and BCCI president Sharad Pawar

"Memories of Sachin and Kambli's record were revived when I read about these two boys' feat.

The two Mumbai cricketers established themselves with long hours of concentration, commitment and hard work. I wish the Hyderabad boys also emulate them," Mr. Pawar said amidst applause at the felicitation function put up by Hyderabad Cricket Association on Sunday.

"I enjoyed watching Kambli for his perfect placement of strokes. Unfortunately, because he lacked concentration we forgot this man," he remarked. "Here are two boys following the footsteps of such great cricketers. If they concentrate and show the commitment, I don't see why they cannot be world class cricketers," said Mr. Pawar.

Continuous process

"Our country is lacking extraordinary batsmen in a crisis and the hope is these two Hyderabadis in the long run should remove that disparity. Learning is a continuous process and requires lots of concentration. It is up to them now to inculcate basic qualities to be good cricketers," he added.

"BCCI congratulates you on your incredible performances in setting the world record... ." were the words inscribed on the mementoes presented by the BCCI to them. The duo had put in an unbroken 721-run stand for the first wicket in an Inter-school (under-13) cricket tournament recently.

"We are really fortunate to be honoured by the BCCI. We only hope to live up to the expectations," chorused Shaibaaz and Manoj Kumar. HCA president and Labour Minister G. Vinod announced a cash award of Rs. 50,000 each to Manoj and Shaibaaz. N. Shivlal Yadav, HCA secretary, also spoke.
