Thiruvananthapuram: Lack of will is the constraint that prevents woman from reaching top positions, and they can overcome it by becoming a major force in the productive sector, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies C. Divakaran said here on Sunday. He was speaking at an awareness programme organised by the Kerala State Women's Commission to mark Anti-Dowry Day. Mr. Divakaran said a renaissance was needed for women. The Government had initiated several steps to make them self-sufficient. Chairperson of the commission M. Kamalam stressed the need for concerted efforts from all sections of people to implement the dowry prohibition Act. She called up on non-governmental and women's organisations and anganwadi workers in the State to take the initiative in this regard. Even if their children were subjected to inhuman torture for dowry, parents failed to complain to the commission or others. Appointment of three regional dowry prohibition officers had not made any difference. The commission was of the opinion that taluk-level officers were needed for the implementing the domestic violence Act.
