KOCHI: District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish has directed officials of the Public Works Department (PWD) to carry out maintenance work on the roads. The directive was issued during a meeting of the District Development Samithy held here on Saturday. A press release from the District Information Office said that Mr. Hanish asked the PWD officials to immediately repair the stretches on the National Highways 17, 47 and 49 as well as MC Road and PWD roads. Mr. Hanish assured M.J. Jacob, MLA, that the land acquisition for completing the work on the Nechoorkkadavu bridge would be expedited. The MLA drew the attention of the District Collector to the poor condition of the Piravom-Koothattukulam and Piravom-Kakkad roads. At the meeting, V.D. Satheesan, MLA, highlighted the incidence of accidents on the Manjaly-airport stretch and C.M. Dinesh Mani, MLA, pointed out the poor condition of Aroor-Vyttila stretch of the National Highway 47. M.M. Monayee, MLA, and Mr. Jacob sought the implementation of drinking water projects in the eastern parts of the district. Mr. Monayee also spoke about the difficulties caused by the chemical pollution of the Kadambrayar. Mr. Mani said the capacity of the proposed waste treatment plant at Brahmapuram should be enhanced to serve more areas. The District Collector said Ernakulam was yet to receive Rs.6.72 crore in flood relief while Rs.12 crore was available for the protection of rivers. The Collector issued instructions to the officials of the Kerala Housing Board to open the Revenue Tower to the public at the earliest.
