BANGALORE: It was a day with a difference for the many members of laughter clubs of Bangalore, as they had an opportunity to meet each other and participate in a joint laughing therapy programme. The occasion was a meeting of the association of laughter clubs of Bangalore. Different from their regular laughing classes wherein members of respective clubs used to participate, the event saw participation by the members of over 150 laughter clubs in the city. Inaugurating the meeting, PES Founder M.R. Doreswamy described laughing therapy as a tonic to treat the present day stress. Though laughter would have cured various ailment, the mechanical style of leading the life had taken away this "best medicine," he rued. The Laughter Club International was founded in Mumbai by Madan Kataria in 1995 and in Bangalore by B.K. Satyanarayanan in 1998. Of the 1,200 clubs nation-wide, over 250 are in the State, including 150 in the city. Participants practiced several laughter therapies, including appreciation/felicitation laughter, one-metre laughter, milk-shake laughter, lion laughter, mobile laughter, argument laughter, forgive laughter, hand-shaking laughter, congratulation laughter and gradient laughter. The event also featured a humour festival, felicitation of pioneers in laughter movement, cultural programmes and group dance. President of the association P. Sadashiv and other office-bearers were present.
