According to the police, the incident took place late in the evening when Charan Singh in an inebriated state went to a shop and asked for "guthka". Mukesh, who was seating there in place of his relative Anil, asked Charan to first make the payment, at which an argument broke out between them.

Charan left the place and returned along with his three accomplices after a while. They allegedly beat up Mukesh with rods and bricks. He was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Charan and two of his accomplices, Rinku and Hari Shankar, have been arrested.
