Fancied names make an exit

KOLKATA: Upsets were the order of the day as many fancied names exited early in both the men and women's sections of the Indian Oil Servo National ranking table tennis (East Zone) at the SAI (Eastern Centre) here on Monday.

In the quarterfinals unseeded Amalraj of Railways outclassed top seeded Sanil Shetty of Maharashtra 4-2.

Earlier in the day R. Abhishek of Indian Bank had sent third seeded Shibaji Dutta of PSPB packing in the pre-quarterfinals while Tamil Nadu's K. Srivastava saw off fourth seeded Sourav Chakrabory (Railways) in the second round of the main draw.

There were upsets in the women's section with top seeded Neha Agarwal of Maharashtra and second seeded Susmita Roy (PSPB) falling in the quarterfinals.
