Sewage pumped into residential colony

A CMDA-approved layout on the Mount-Poonamallee Road on the city outskirts was rendered inaccessible for its residents after sewage pumped from parts of Mangadu Panchayat flooded it on Monday.

Residents of Jeeva Nagar coming under the Panchayat jurisdiction said that for the second monsoon in succession, the layout was cut off on the Kattupakkam and Mangadu sides as heavy rains flooded its low-lying roads. The residents have been demanding that the panchayat dump debris immediately to raise the level of roads by a few feet to match the adjoining Badrimedu ward. Jeeva Nagar also lacks street lighting totally, encouraging unlawful activities and consumption of liquor in the open at dusk.
