Man arrested

NEW DELHI: One person has been arrested by the South Delhi police for allegedly running an illicit liquor manufacturing factory at Madanpur Khadar in South Delhi. According to the police, the accused, Surjan, a resident of Jaitpur village in Badarpur, was arrested during a raid in his village on Sunday around 8 p.m. The police recovered more than 1,500 litres of raw material and 54 litres of freshly-made liquor during the raid.

Punters nabbed

NEW DELHI: Seven people have been arrested by the Crime Branch from different parts of the Capital on charges of running betting rackets. A dozen mobile phones, laptops and other articles were recovered from their possession. Acting on a tip-off that some people were running a betting racket at Subzi Mandi in North Delhi on the one-day international cricket match between South Africa and India, the police sent a decoy to strike a deal on Sunday. As soon as the suspects accepted the stake amount, the police raided the place and arrested them.

Cultural festival

NEW DELHI: The annual two-day cultural and management festival "Tatva-2006" organised by Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, Delhi concluded here this past week.

Conceived as a platform for students to showcase their potential, the festival saw the participation of over 30 business schools.

Bank initiative

NEW DELHI: State Bank of Hyderabad chief general manager R.P. Sinha inaugurated the Combined Sales Force (CSF) and the Cash Administration Cell (CAC) of the bank at Kailash Colony here over the weekend.

While CSF will spearhead the marketing of the bank's products, especially the home loans and other loans focussing on the small and medium enterprises, the CAC has been set-up for better cash management.
