dated November 29, 1956: Chou En-lai in Calcutta

The Chinese Prime Minister, Mr. Chou En-lai, arrived at Dum Dum airport in Calcutta shortly after 12 noon on November 28 in an Indian Airlines Skymaster. Mr. Chou En-lai, on a 12-day visit to this country, was received at the airport by the Governor, Miss Padmaja Naidu, and Chief Minister, Dr. B.C. Roy. He is accompanied by Marshal Ho Lung, Vice-Prime Minister of China, and a party of nearly 30 officials. During a 35-minute halt for refuelling his aircraft, the Chinese Prime Minister had a quick lunch at the VIP room in the airport. Chinese and Indian dishes were served to him. Strict security measures taken by the authorities prevented people from presenting the distinguished visitor with bouquets and garlands.
