dated November 29, 1956: New Mayor of Madras

Mr. K.N. Srinivasan, Congress Councillor from Muthialpet division, was elected Mayor of Madras at a meeting of the City Council held on November 28 under the presidentship of the outgoing Mayor, Mr. V.R. Ramanatha Aiyar. For the second year in succession in recent times, the convention of making the Mayoral election unanimous was broken and the opposition set up a candidate to contest the election. The election of Deputy Mayor was, however, not contested and Mr. Ramadoss (Congress), representing the Basin Bridge division, was elected Deputy Mayor.
