Special Correspondent

Plans to file 12 more DMFs in 2-3 years

BANGALORE: Bal Pharma has entered Japan, the second largest pharmaceutical market after the U.S., with a business volume of $60 billion. Bal Pharma Managing Director, Shailesh Siroya, told reporters here that the company has obtained a Foreign manufacturers' Accreditation of the Ministry of Health of Japan, valid for five years and renewable.

Bal Pharma has been granted the Japanese Drug Master File (DMF) for Ebastine, an anti-histamine and Glicazide for treating diabetes. The company has specialised in diabetic and cardiac care formulations and has three facilities here and in Pune and its R and D centre in Bangalore.

The company is already in the Spanish market. Going ahead, Bal Pharma plans to file 12 more Japanese DMFs over the next two to three years, including products specially formulated for the Japanese market. Some of these will come from its new plant in Uttaranchal.
