Emirates vessel calls at Cochin Port

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The second of the mainline vessels at the Cochin Port, MV Emirates, called at the port around midnight on Monday for loading to West Asia destinations, according to a press release here.

The vessel, which arrived from Colombo, will sail from Kochi to Nhava Sheva before setting off to Jebel Ali.

Cochin Port received its first mainline vessel, MV Ville De Mars, on September 15 this year.

The vessel arrived from Bandar Abbas Port (Iran) and sailed to Port Kelang (Malaysia).

The vessel had called at the port subsequent to an announcement by the Cochin Port Trust of 50 per cent concessions on vessel related charges to mainline vessels of Gross Registered Tonnage of 25,000 and above having a capacity of 2,500 TEUs or more. A press release from the Emirates Shipping Line said on Tuesday that this was the first mainliner of a scheduled weekly service to make a call at the Cochin Port.
