Golden jubilee fete at St. Joseph 's

School provides free education, hostel facilities to boys from poor families and orphans

KADAPA: The three-day golden jubilee celebrations of St. Joseph Boys' High School, Maripuram, began on Tuesday, with a scouts rally.

The school provides free education and hostel facilities to 504 children below the poverty line and orphans, under the supervision of Kadapa Diocese, school correspondent Y. Rathnam Swamy and principal K. Papi Reddy told a press conference.

Fr. Rathnam garlanded the statue of school founder Francis Crumvlish of Scotland, who bought 80 acres with his earnings and set up the school in 1956. Samson of Cathedral Church eulogised the services of Fr. Francis.

Thirty past students of the school who became church fathers including Bishop M.D. Prakasam would be felicitated on November 29, Fr. Rathnam said. Collector M.T. Krishna Babu, Superintendent of Police Y. Nagi Reddy, Kadapa Mayor P. Ravindranath Reddy, Deputy Mayor K. Nabi Rasool, DEO Y. Balaiah and other officials and some old students would be felicitated on November 30. A poor boys fund with Rs. 1 lakh to bear cost of education, books and uniforms was also proposed.

Principal's gesture

Principal K. Papi Reddy announced his resolve to contribute Rs. 600 a month towards cost of insulin required by a child of Nagur in Vempalle mandal.
