Introduce job schemes: Left party

  • Calls for firm measures to control inflation
  • 33% quota for women in Parliament, Legislatures urged

Puducherry: The one-day regional conference of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Puducherry, held on Monday, adopted a resolution urging the administration to introduce schemes that enabled the poor to get jobs and earn a livelihood instead of letting them depend on the Government for freebies. The meet was held under R. Rajangam, State executive committee member of the CPI (M), Tamil Nadu.

Secretary of the party V. Perumal told newsmen on Tuesday that the conference felt that the Government should realise whether freebies would be a permanent solution to the poor to better their economic status. The approach adopted in States like West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura should be emulated here.

He said that the exchequer would also be exhausted as huge expenditure was involved in distributing benefits of various schemes free of cost.

The administration should ensure that the essential commodities were available to card holders through public distribution system without break. The conference also felt that the Centre should come out with firm measures to control inflation.

A week-long campaign would be launched from December 7 in Puducherry and Karaikal districts as a prelude for the observance of a one-day strike on December 14 in response to the call given by various trade unions all over the country.

The authorities should ensure 33 per cent quota for women in Parliament and State Legislatures and the Government should procure farm produce without associating private players. T. Murugan, executive committee member of the CPI (M), Tamil Nadu unit was also present.
