Puducherry: Workers and sanitary staff of the Oulgaret municipality staged a demonstration near the Chief Secretariat here on Tuesday in support of their charter of demands. The workers, who carried placards, were seen raising slogans tying their eyes with black cloth. Joint Action Committee secretary of the staff K. Palanivelu said in a release that the administration should make available the benefit of Assured Career Progression (ACP) scheme to the workers, who were "employees with temporary Government staff" status. The basic pay for the Group D workers should be revised to Rs.3,050 as per recommendation of the Fifth Pay Commission. Mr. Palanivelu said that the next of kin of workers, who died in harness, should be given jobs without delay. Those, who were working either on daily wages or as temporary staff, should be regularised. President of the committee S. Sagayaraj led the agitation. Among those who addressed the workers included P. Lakshmanasamy, general Secretary of the Central Federation Government Employees Association, Radha, president of the Federation Reserved Employees Associations, and functionaries of the PWD Employees Association, Madhivanan and Vailankannidasan.
