Funds for solid waste management

CUDDALORE: District Collector Gagandeep Singh Bedi has sanctioned Rs. 43.75 lakh from the Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojana Scheme to Nellikuppam, Chidambaram and Vriddhachalam municipalities for solid waste management.

Under the scheme, meant for bridging the gap in providing basic amenities in the backward district, Rs.45 crore had been earmarked, to be spent over a period of three years, ie., from 2004 to 2007, at the rate of Rs. 15 crore a year.

Mr. Bedi said, in a release here on Tuesday, that the administrative sanction had been given to the Chidambaram municipality to acquire a front-end loader at a cost of Rs.20 lakh and a waste disposal lorry at a cost of Rs.10 lakh. The Vriddhachalam municipality had been given permission to purchase a tipper lorry at a cost of Rs.10 lakh.
