CHENNAI: The salt-and-pepper-haired generation of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s sat on the edge of their seats wolfing down the music of Sachin Dev Burman.

Three songs after the programme began on Saturday at Raja Annamalai Hall in Parry's Corner, S. Venkatraghavan, one of the many cricket celebrities in Chennai, was called onstage. It might sound a little clichéd, he acknowledged before he said, "I was completely bowled. It was a Yorker when Pramod called me."

Pramod Nair had organised the show with a few other friends. The programme included 59 songs by R.D. Burman and his father, S.D. Burman. S.D. Burman's songs were presented on Saturday and R.D. Burman's songs on Sunday.

Shekher, who sang `Gaata rahe mera dil... ' from the movie `Guide', took the audience with him all the way. He said he had given up singing 18 years ago.

No wonder then that the middle-aged members of the audience left the auditorium with a song on their lips.
