Trinamool's `satyagraha' against Singur project today

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee said here on Tuesday that her party would launch a "satyagraha" over "forcible" acquisition of farmland for the Tata Motors project at Singur in West Bengal's Hooghly district.

The "satyagraha" would commence on Wednesday with party workers courting arrest in the city, Ms Banerjee said.

Left rally

The announcement came on the eve of a rally planned by the Left Front at Singur to express support for the State's plans to set up an industry in the area.

Ms Banerjee on Sunday launched a novel agitation by sowing potato seeds on a plot waiting to be acquired by the State Government for the Tata Motor's project.

The Trinamool leader said she would attend a rally to be organised by the Krishi Jami Bachao [Save Farmland] Samity at Singur on Thursday.
