AIDWA opposes tie-up
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
The All-India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) has expressed its opposition to the joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and Wal-Mart in the retail trade which is ``nothing but a backdoor entry of the mega multinational into the retail trade.''
In a statement here on Tuesday, AIDWA president Subhashini Ali said that at a time when employment opportunities in the country were dwindling drastically this was a dangerous development.
It would have an impact on the retail trade which gave employment to about 6 crore people most of them belonging to the lower middle class and poorer sections.
The AIDWA was especially concerned because crores of women were also involved in the retail trade, the statement said while urging the Government to refuse permission to the proposal.
