Letters to the Editor
The article "Our value system and the future of India" (Nov. 27) echoes the views and concerns of many scientists and academicians. While sportspersons and film stars are constantly in the limelight, much less is talked about other, equally and perhaps even more, successful persons in science, arts and other spheres. As pointed out by the author, the values we create in the young matter. They are getting the message that the only important people are the celebrities projected by the media. This malaise needs to be corrected immediately.
The fears expressed by the author are that of the silent majority the common people who are voiceless. The Hindu should take the lead in popularising the works of great people who have not been accorded due recognition by the media.
