JAIPUR: Rajasthan was awarded the special commendation medal in the State pavilion category for its outstanding display in the India International Trade Fair-2006 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi on Tuesday. Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh gave away the prize to the Pavilion Director, Ravi Agrawal, at a function held in Shakuntalam Theatre in Pragati Maidan. The prize comprised the medal and a citation. Rajasthan Pavilion was one of the most attractive destinations for visitors to the IITF. Domestic and foreign investors evinced a keen interest in the handicrafts, tourism and industries of the desert State. The Rajasthan Small Industries Corporation, which was the nodal agency for the pavilion, broke all previous records by registering a business of over Rs. 32 lakhs during the 14-day fair, while a total business of Rs. 1-crore was reported in the pavilion. An official release stated here that nearly 15-lakh people visited the State pavilion till Sunday and the entrance was closed several times to control the rush of visitors.
