Demand for pay parity

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Government Stenographers working in various Central Government Departments have expressed their resentment at the decision to hike the pay scales of stenographers in Central Secretariat Services, ignoring the demands of Subordinate Services, though the selection procedure and nature of duties are the same.

They described it as "a unilateral decision which was in violation of Article 14 and 16 of the Constitution and against the spirit of justice" and also against ILO convention No.100 that speaks about "equal remuneration for equal work" and demanded immediate parity with the Central Secretariat Services.

They decided to send a joint representation to the Government in this connection. They also decided to form and strengthen the confederation at the State-level and elected an ad-hoc committee with S. Sajeev Kumar as the president, M. Harisuthan general convenor and Ligi the treasurer.
