Support price for sugarcane announced

CHENNAI: The State Government on Tuesday announced a support price of Rs.222.50 above the Central Government's Statutory Minimum Price of Rs.802.50 per tonne of sugarcane for the 2006-2007 season.

An official release here said Rs.1,025 per tonne would be the State Advised Price (SAP) for sugarcane linked to nine per cent recovery.

The SAP would be implemented with retrospective effect so that it would be applicable to the sugarcane already procured. The Government also announced a premium of Rs.9 for every 0.1 per cent increase in the recovery.
