The nurses were demanding better remuneration and better working facilities.

There are 150 trainee nurses in KIMS who have been appointed on a temporary basis since 2003.

Addressing press persons after a meeting with the representatives of the nurses' association, M.G. Hiremath, Director of KIMS, said that a new remuneration package would be offered to trainee nurses with effect from No"vember 1.

Trainee nurses, who had an experience of over three years, would get a consolidated salary of Rs. 4,500, he said. Those with an experience of two years would get Rs. 4,000 and the nurses with with one year's experience would get Rs. 3,500 as consolidated salary, he added.

Dr. Hiremath said that another demand of the nurses was disbursement of salary within the first week of every month. They have been assured that they would get their salaries within the tenth of every month, he said.

On the nurses' demand of regularising their services, he said since there were no sanctioned posts vacant in the institute, it would not be possible to recruit them immediately. The institute had been sending proposals to the Government seeking additional posts of nurses for the hospital, he said. Another proposal in this regard would be sent soon, he said.
