MYSORE: Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) workers clashed at the Nirmala Convent School at V.V. Mohalla where Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj Horatti was holding a meeting with teachers on Tuesday.

Some Congress workers allegedly stormed into the school and took objection to the Minister meeting the teachers . They reportedly locked the gates of the school and staged a dharna following which scores of Janata Dal (S) activists marched to the venue and broke open the locks and freed the Minister and the Pandavpura MLA Puttaraju who was with him.

Mr. Horatti and nearly 30 teachers who were present in the school marched to the V.V.Mohalla Police Station and lodged a complaint against their illegal confinement. While the Congress workers accused the Minister of violating the election code of conduct, the Mr. Horatti denied the allegations and said he was discussing issues pertaining to the school and it had nothing to do with the elections.

Tension prevailed in the area for nearly two hours as the activists of both the parties took to the streets.

Police personnel were rushed to the spot to defuse the situation.
