WCC commemorative volume launched

Staff Reporter

The book is an interesting compilation of WCC's history

CHENNAI: The launch of the 90th year commemorative volume of the Women's Christian College was an occasion for both pride and nostalgia for alumnae of the college.

The book titled `Thy daughters' voices' (chosen from a college song) is an interesting compilation of the institution's history, experiences of faculty members and students who were part of it. Launching the book on Monday, Nirmala Lakshman, joint editor of The Hindu , and an alumna of the college, recalled her student days at the institution.

`Wider society'

"The college instilled in us the need to contribute to the wider society," Mrs. Nirmala Lakshman said.

Adding that it was a "moving experience" to be part of the function, Ms. Lakshman said alumnae should make themselves available to the college. Historian S. Muthiah read out excerpts of the convocation address delivered at the Senate of the University of Madras on 6 August 1931 by Eleanor McDougall, first principal of WCC. He also dwelt upon the institution's origin and history.

Office bearers and members of the college's alumnae association were present.
