MANGALORE: A two-day seminar on "applications of radioisotopes and radiation technology" and an exhibition on "peaceful applications of atomic energy" would begin here from Wednesday, according to K. M. Kaveriappa, Vice-Chancellor, Mangalore University. Addressing presspersons on Tuesday he said that they would be organised by the university and National Association for Applications of Radioisotopes and Radiation in Industry (NAARRI) and Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology (BRIT), Mumbai. The seminar will be held at Town Hall from 10 a.m. and the exhibition at the University College. A.K. Kohli, chief executive, BRIT and president, NAARRI, will deliver the inaugural address. Nageshwar Rao, station director, Kaiga generating station, Karwar, will release a souvenir. Former Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University M.I. Savadatti would inaugurate the exhibition. The seminar is likely to attract 1,000 participants. About 20 reputed scientists from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Atomic Energy Regulatory Board and BRIT, Mumbai, would speak at the seminar. Advancements in the applications of radioisotopes and radiation technologies in areas like industry, medicine, agriculture and research have enhanced the importance of peaceful uses of atomic energy, he said.
