MANGALORE: Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) is all set to take up work on widening and strengthening the road from Maravoor to the site where Airports Authority of India (AAI) has proposed to construct the integrated terminal building in the vicinity of Mangalore (Bajpe) Airport. When completed this road would boost connectivity to the airport and will reduce the distance between the city and the airport by seven km from the new building. It would also serve as an approach road to the airport from the city. The road would also reduce the travel time of passengers from the city, said sources in AAI. Work on this road would start by mid-December. The KUIDFC has planned to complete the road at an estimated cost of Rs. 8.90 crore under Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environment Management Project (KUDCEMP). Tender has already been called, J.R. Lobo, project director, KUDCEMP, told The Hindu. The road from Maravoor railway line underpass towards the proposed terminal building would be widened from five metres to seven metres up to 1.12 km. It will be a two-way bituminous road till there. From there till the terminal building a four-lane road would be laid for 900 metres. Of 900 metres 400 metres will be a concrete four-lane road and the remaining will be a bituminous road. The four-lane road will be 14 metres in width. The KUIDFC would also complete electrical and allied work in the four-lane stretch, he said.
AAI has called tenders to construct the new integrated terminal building at an estimated cost of Rs. 147 crore.
