Appointment of Administrator to BMP challenged
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
A public interest litigation (PIL) petition challenging the appointment of an Administrator to the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) was filed in the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday. The petitioner, M. Nagaraj, a former councillor of Ward No. 13, said the appointment of an Administrator is contrary to the provisions of the Karnataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) Act and also ultra vires. He said the last elections to the BMP was held on November 11, 2001 and the first meeting the council took place on November 24. He said though a notice was issued to the State and to the State Election Commission on October 25, 2006 to hold elections, the State issued a preliminary notification on November 2 on the formation of Greater Bangalore.
He urged the court to stay the notification appointing an Administrator to the BMP.
