Snag in PUB lifts causes hardships

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Hundreds of government employees working in the Public Utility Building (PUB) and visitors had to walk their way up the stairs to offices as high as the 25th floor.

The reason: four of the five lifts stopped functioning.

The main core cable wire connecting the four lifts snapped, and for nearly five hours, there was no way to go up except by taking the stairs. People could not use the fifth lift either as it is used exclusively by a private restaurant on the top floor. Many offices, including the Southern Railways reservation counter are on floors above the 3rd floor.

Two of the four lifts were repaired by 2.30 p.m., the rest were ready for use only in the evening.
