KOCHI: Calling for breaking barriers between people and coming together for a Vasudeva Kutumbakam, Art of Living guru Sri Sri Ravishankar said that life was a celebration. "When we take that first step there will be peace in society," he said.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the silver jubilee of the Art of Living movement here on Tuesday, he said that every one should think how he could be useful to others. "In this endeavour, the person is not alone, the almighty is there too."

Addressing a packed Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, he said even if a person did not believe in the existence of God, he could believe in the humanity and work for its betterment.

Governor R.L. Bhatia, chief guest, said that the world had given a special status for the Art of Living movement. At the ceremony, Sri Sri Ravishankar honoured Kris Gopalakrishnan of Infosys for his contributions in software development. Actors Jayaram and Kavya Madhavan also received the guru's blessings and spoke on the occasion.

Mayor Mercy Williams, Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish and Vice-Chancellor of the Sree Sankara University of Sanskrit K.S. Radhakrishnan spoke on the occasion.

The highlight of the evening was a mohiniyattom performance by a thousand dancers at a cultural programme organised for the occasion.
