THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thampanoor police have arrested four persons, including the clerks of two lawyers, on the charge of forging land tax receipts for proving the solvency of persons who stand as sureties for accused persons to get bail from court. Sub Inspector Sheen Tharayil identified the accused as Syed Ali (33), Manikantan (38), Venugopal (43) and Sujana Kumari (38). The police said scores of forged land tax receipts of village officers in Muttathara, Vellanadu, Kunnathukal, Karimkulam and Mannoorkonam were seized from the accused. The seals and signatures of the village officers on the receipts were also found to be false. The police had busted the gang by posing as wanted persons in need of sureties for getting bail in criminal cases. According to police, the accused had demanded Rs.20,000 for providing sureties and necessary documents to prove their solvency. The sting operation was headed by Assistant Commissioner, Fort, V.C.
