Action sought

NEW DELHI: The Co-ordination Committee of Central Government Employees and Workers, Delhi State, has in a resolution sought action against a senior passport officer for alleged "inappropriate conduct" with the staffers.

In a letter to External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Committee general secretary V. Bhattacharjee said the resolution was adopted at a meeting held on November 24. The All-India Passport Employees' Association general secretary T.K. Venugopalan also addressed the meeting.

The resolution said that the officer concerned was behaving in an autocratic manner and urged Mr. Mukherjee to intervene in the matter.

Four arrested

NEW DELHI: Four persons, including two young women, were arrested at Desh Bandhu Gupta Road by the Special Staff of the Central Delhi police on charges of running a prostitution racket.

Acting on a tip-off that some people were indulging in the flesh trade, the police sent a decoy to strike a deal with the suspects. Soon after the deal was finalised and the culprits came to meet the decoy near Liberty Cinema in a white Honda City car, the police mounted a raid and arrested them.

During interrogation, the alleged pimps identified themselves as Sushil and Mahender. The women purportedly disclosed that they were working for the duo for the past year.

Auto-lifters held

NEW DELHI: Three persons allegedly involved in auto-lifting have been arrested by the East Delhi police. The police claim to have recovered 10 stolen cars from them.

According to the police, two of the accused -- Fakhruddin and Sarfaraz -- were arrested at Mandawali in East Delhi on Monday afternoon. At their instance, the third accused, Dinesh Verma, a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, was also arrested.

The police said the accused, all of who hailed from Muzzaffarnagar, would come to Delhi and roam around in the residential areas during night. They used to carry master keys for Maruti 800 cars and try various cars parked by the roadside. Once they managed to open a vehicle, they used to take it to Muzaffarnagar.

`Criminals' nabbed

NEW DELHI: Three alleged criminals were arrested by the Crime Branch from a park near the Modi flyover in South Delhi on Monday. The police claim to have recovered a country-made firearm from their possession.

The police said Kauser Ali, Sagar Yadav and Lekhraj Yadav were arrested when they had gathered in the park to plan a robbery.

Two suicide cases

NEW DELHI: Two young women, including a Nepali national, allegedly committed suicide in different parts of South Delhi on Tuesday. Sushila (24), wife of Ajay Kumar, hanged herself at her Balbir Nagar residence in Bhati Mines. Eighteen-year-old Durga Thapa was found hanging from the ceiling a chunni in a house at Srinivaspuri in South Delhi. She worked as a domestic help.
