Students develop school web site on their own

The efforts of five Class XII computer science students of St. Joseph's Higher Secondary School here to build a web site on their own have come to fruition. The school now has an official web site www.stjosephshss.info. It was inaugurated by Minister for Home Kodiyeri Balakrishnan recently.

The aim was to have a meeting place in cyber space where hundreds of students who have passed through the portals of the school could interact.

The idea of creating the web site came to Sarat Lakshman following a suggestion from a former student.

With the help of their teacher, Denny John, the students, led by Sarat, undertook the work of design and development of the site.

"We used free software tools to design the web site and it was purely created under the GNU/Linux platform," said Sarat. The team took nearly a month to develop the web site.

While Rahul Anand did the work of data collection and processing, C. Anagha was entrusted with the date processing works and the textual part.

Harshida Chandran joined her for translation and literary works. K.V. Rinil worked on the photographs. Mr. John helped the team in data collection.

"There are a lot of former students who are working in different parts of the world as doctors, engineers, scientists and diplomats," said Sarat. The community page on the web site would allow the alumni to interact, he added.

The main features of the web site include alumni corner, school history, picture gallery, former eminent students of the school such as Murkot Ramunny, eminent teachers, academic details, school activities and a guest book.
