Ministry `lacks enough powers'

S. Nadarajan

Demand for Statehood reiterated

Puducherry: An informed source in the Puducherry Government told newsmen here on Tuesday that in the present system of administration the elected Ministry lacked adequate powers to measure up to the expectations of the people in the Union Territory.

There were several stumbling blocks the Ministry was facing and that was why implementation of several welfare schemes was running aground. The source said that there should be grant of full-fledged Statehood for Puducherry, which continued to be a Union Territory from day one. "We are evolving several pilot projects and their implementation, against great odds, was very much perceptible. But the procedural formalities and lack of Constitutional powers cause hindrances in expanding the schemes, the source said.
