Book on Telugus of Yanam released

Special Correspondent

Puducherry: Industries and Agriculture Minister V. Vaithilingam released a book on "Telugus of Yanam and Masulipatnam from 1723 to 1954" on Tuesday in his chamber. Local Administration and Tourism Minister Malladi Krishna Rao received the first copy.

The author J.B.P. More and publisher Madimchetty Sathianarayanamoorthy were present.

Mr. More told newsmen that he had taken nearly six years to write the book, which covered the economic, political, historical and cultural features of Yanam, an enclave of the Union Territory in Andhra Pradesh. He said that he had collected details from the records maintained by the National Library in Paris and from the archives there on Yanam. The book, running to 300 pages, would be of help as a reference material for research works.

This was Mr. More's ninth book; he has written a book on Mahe and some other historical works. Mr. More, a former Deputy Director of the Institute of Research on Social Sciences and Humanities affiliated to University of Kannur in Kerala, said that the book highlighted the details of Yanam from the establishment of French rule to liberation in 1954.
