KOCHI: The Council of Power Utilities, in coordination with the Association of Electric Supply Industry, will organise an international conference on loss reduction and quality improvement in power distribution. The conference will be held in New Delhi in April next year. The main objective of the conference is to provide a forum for sharing of experience among the various utilities and distribution companies in India and abroad. Discussions will be held on technological advancement taking place in the power distribution sector, application of IT in distribution for revenue management, innovative methods for revenue protection, assessment of problems and finding out remedial measures. The conference will take stock of the present situation while discussing the measures to be adopted in the wake of the national electricity policy that envisages total electrification of villages by 2010 and reliable power supply to all by 2012. The Council will organise another conference on thermal power next year. The participants will include power generation planners, electricity regulators, private and public sector utilities, investors, consultants, technologists and manufacturers of power equipment, according to the organisers.
