Chandigarh: Cold wave conditions continued to prevail in many places of the northern region, with mercury dipping to 5.4 degree Celsius here on Wednesday. While the minimum temperature in the city was four degrees below normal, in neighbouring Ambala too, the low touched 5.4 degree C, down three degrees, according to the Meteorological Department. Narnaul turned out to be the coldest place in Haryana recording a low of 5 degree Celsius while Karnal registered a low of 7 degree C, down three degrees. Delhi also had a cold night, recording a low of 7.3 degree C, three below normal. Adampur in Punjab reeled under intense cold recording a low of 3.2 degree C while Ludhiana also groaned under piercing chill as the mercury dipped to 4.8 degree C, four degrees below normal. Amritsar had a low of 5.6 degree C, down one while Patiala had a low of 6 degree C, three below normal. The chill also swept Shimla town and the low there was recorded at 3.8 degree C, down two degrees. The maximum at Shimla was also lower than normal today at 12.6 degree C. Sundernagar braved a cold night at 2.9 degree C. The maximum temperatures at most places in the plains today settled well above the 20 degree Celsius mark, the Met office said adding sunny days are likely over the next two days in Punjab and Haryana. People in many parts of Rajasthan got a slight respite from cold with the mercury rising by two to four degrees at several places.
