BANGALORE: Two Kerala stars Mayooka Johny and Chinchu Jose brought the curtains down on the 22nd junior National athletics championship with National record-breaking performances. At the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Wednesday, Mayooka erased a decade-long record held by former World No. 4 Anju Bobby George (nee Markose) with a leap of 13.11 metres in the girls' under-20 triple jump event. Later, Chinchu Jose's effort of 2:13.11 seconds in the girls' under-16 800m bettered Tintu Luka's mark of 2:15.37 seconds set two years ago at Meerut.
Meet records
Six new meet records were also established with Kerala accounting for two of those. Mayooka, who claimed the long jump gold on Tuesday, was adjudged `best athlete of the meet', while Sneha Patil of Karnataka for her double gold (100m hurdles and 400m hurdles, besides a 4x100m relay silver) in the under-20 category, was adjudged `best athlete from the host State'.
