Arms dump unearthed

ADILABAD: Special party policemen on Wednesday unearthed a dump belonging to Maoists between Dongapalli and Chinna Dampur villages while on combing operations. Detonators, gelatin sticks, wire, olive green uniform and some party literature were recovered. - Staff Reporter

Three accused of rape

ADILABAD: The Ichoda police on Wednesday registered a case against Naresh Goud and two others on the charge of raping a tribal girl. According to police the girl, a student of Boath Ashram school, was going home when the three took her to a secluded place near Sirikonda bypass road and allegedly raped her. - Staff Reporter

One killed in accident

TIRUPATI: A six member pilgrim-party from Chennai had a miraculous escape when the jeep in which they were travelling from Tirumala to Tirupati plunged into the valley while negotiating a curve. The driver of the jeep, Subramanyam (47), was however killed in the mishap. - Special Correspondent

Trains cancelled

HYDERABAD: The Guntakal-Dharmavaram and Madanapalle Road-Pakala sections of SCR will remain closed with effect from November 30 and December 31 respectively to facilitate gauge conversion. Power supply snapped

KURNOOL: P ower supply officials switched off supply to Chakibanda in Halaharvi mandal of Kurnool district on Wednesday. According to reports, the villagers were demanding for power from Kurnool district lines while the supply was now routed was through Anantapur district. As the officials did not relent, the villagers stopped paying their bills leading cut in supply on Wednesday.-Special Correspondent

15 officers to oversee

code enforcement

Srikakulam: District Collector V.N. Vishnu has appointed 15 senior officers to oversee enforcement of election code of conduct in five mandals in the district which formed part of Bobbili Lok Sabha constituency.

The officers will tour all villages in the five mandals and see that the code is enforced. He has also temporarily shifted his camp office to Training and Technology Development Centre (TTDC) at Etcherla. Mr. Vishnu will function from the TTDC till election is over. Mr. Vishnu who reviewed election arrangements at the TTDC on Wednesday. -Special Correspondent

Training centre

inaugurated

Kakinada: Christine Ruth Hampshire, examiner, Trinity College, London, formally inaugurated its centre on the Subha Nikethan Public School premises here on Wednesday.

She said that those received training at the centre would be awarded certificates that have the recognition by all universities abroad. Ms. Hampshire said that special coaching would be imparted by the London College to acquire skills in English. - Correspondent

MLA's plea to YSR

ONGOLE: Kondepi MLA Pothula Rama Rao has urged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to prevail on the Reliance Industries to extend its gas pipeline to Prakasam district to stimulate industrial growth and solve unemployment problem in the backward district.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, the Congress MLA pointed out that Reliance Industries has announced its intention to lay gas pipeline in Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur districts in the first phase. He wanted the pipeline be extended up to Prakasam district.

Home guard attempts suicide

KHAMMAM: A former home guard, Narasimha Rao, 40, attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison near the Collectorate here today. He was shifted to the hospital and given a stomach wash and his condition was stable. The police said that Narasimha Rao, who had occupied a house plot near the police grounds made a vain bid for levelling it. As he was prevented from doing so, he tried to lodge protest by a suicide bid.

Narasimha Rao was removed from home guard post in 1992 for misconduct. Subsequently he worked as security guard in a private hospital and market yard. At both the places he incurred the displeasures of the employers and lost the job.

The police booked a case against him for attempting suicide and investigation is on.

Medical camp

ELURU: Yogada Satsanga Dhyana Mandali will organise a free medical camp for people suffering from cleft lip. The victims will be operated upon for the disorders, according to mandali president Uppalapati Hemalatha Bhaskar. A team of doctors led by Golsa Srinivasa Reddy of the Hyderabad-based Hospital Cleft Society will render services during the camp.

NIZAMABAD: A free cardiac screening was conducted by the district police and Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, at the Police Parade Grounds here on Wednesday. Over 200 persons were screened at the camp which was inaugurated Superintendent of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha. He called upon the policemen to be careful about their diet and health.

Apollo Hospitals Cardiologist Dr. Narasaraju, physician Dr. Subramaniam and Dr. Harini examined the patients.
