VIJAYAWADA: East Godavari won the hockey title, while West Godavari bagged the handball honours in the 32nd AP State women's sports festival-Group II, which concluded at Mylavaram on Wednesday. The results: Hockey (final): East Godavari bt Chittoor 1-1 (3-1 tie-breaker). Semifinals: E. Godavari bt Nizamabad 2-1; Chittoor bt Visakhapatnam 1-0. Handball (final): W. Godavari bt Guntur 17-3. Semifinals: W. Godavari bt Kurnool 21-3; Guntur bt Visakhaptnam 13-6. Tennis (individual): Sushma (Krishna, winner), Divya Raana (Chittoor, runner-up). Team championship: Hyderabad bt Chittoor 3-0.
Close call for Allauddin
Allauddin XI scored a one-wicket victory over Jolly Rovers (Vij), while KBN College scored an emphatic 85-run victory over Railway Wagon Workshop in the Devineni Venkataramana and Praneetha memorial KDCA B division league. The scores: KBN College 207 for nine in 40 overs (Sk. Khaja 54) bt Railway Wagon Workshop (Guntupalli) 122 in 23.3 overs. V.S. XI 270 in 32.2 overs (Surendra 68) bt Eagles XI 57 in 17.3 overs (Subbu four for 4). Jolly Rovers CC (Vij) 168 in 40 overs (I.V.K.M. Raju 50) lost to Allauddin XI 169 for nine in 234.2 overs.
Warangal dominates
Warangal archers dominated the Cherukuri Volga memorial 16th AP State junior inter-district archery championship here on Wednesday. The results: FITA recurve girls (overall): Sofia 948, M. Prasannavani 695, Rejitha 637 (all War). FITA recurve boys (overall): P. Prasad (Kham) 1186, E. Raju (War) 1139, Deeraj (Kris) 740. Compound (overall): N. Anurag (RR) 1128. Ch. Harika hailed
The Krishna District Chess Association has hailed WGM Dronavalli Harika's feat of emerging Commonwealth women's champion at Mumbai.
APBA proposal
The Andhra Pradesh Basketball Association (APBA) at its recent annual general body meeting, held at Kothagudem, decided to organise several inter-school competitions in every district. The APBA secretary, Sampath Kumar, said each district should be equipped with two courts, one floodlit, to conduct inter-district tournaments.
