Tirumala: State flayed for inaction

Special Correspondent

Tirumala Tirupati Samrakshana Samiti for scrapping of G.O. 335

HYDERABAD: The Tirumala Tirupati Samrakshana (protection) Samiti has criticised the State Government for failing to fulfil its promise of issuing orders declaring that the seven hills at Tirumala were under the jurisdiction of TTD and on other demands raised by devotees and sadhus on July 15.

Somaraju Susheela, vice-president, and S. Lakshmidevi, spokesperson, at a press conference here on Wednesday, said barring the oral assurance that the seven hills were under the control of Lord Venkateswara of Tirumala, the Government had failed to issue orders, as demanded by the samiti.

The samiti favoured scrapping of G.O. 335 which mentioned that only two Tirumala hills were under TTD's jurisdiction. It wanted a resolution on seven hills passed in the ensuing session of the Assembly.

Other demands

They said the session should also enact a law banning "propagation'' of other faiths in Tirumala limits, alleging that missionary activities were on the rise in the temple town for the past two years.

The other demands include utilisation of the TTD "hundi" collections only for "Hindu" religious and spiritual activities and renaming TTD as "Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishat".

They said the samiti would organise a mass hunger-strike here on December 16, with the participation of devotees and others to press for the demands.
